Steve Martin 14 Ağustos 1945 yılında Teksas’da doğan Amerikalı komedyen, oyuncu, müzisyen, yazar ve yapımcıdır. Kaliforniya Üniversitesi felsefe bölümü mezunudur.
İlk olarak Disneyland’da sihirbazlık, hokkabazlık, balonla hayvan yapma gibi işlerde çalıştı. Ayrıca okul arkadaşlarıyla müzikaller sahneledi.
1967 yılında The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour serisi için yazarlık yaptı ve 1969 yılında Emmy ödülü kazandı.
Komedyen olarak stand-up gösterilerinde Johnny Carson’ın şovlarında yer aldı.
1977 yılında senaryosu Martine ait olan The Absent-Minded Waiter adlı 7 dakikalık kısa film, en iyi kısa film dalında Akademi ödülüne aday gösterildi.
