Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson, 3 Ocak 1956 doğumlu Amerikalı aktör, yönetmen ve yapımcıdır. New South Wales Üniversitesi’nin drama bölümünden mezun oldu. Öğrencilik yıllarında Summer City adlı bir filmde genç bir sörfçüyü canlandırdı. Mezun olduktan sonra da Güney Avustralya Devlet Tiyatrosu’na katıldı. Birçok klasik oyunda rol alan Gibson, yönetmen George Miller’ın teklifiyle kendini bir anda film setinde bularak, sinemaya Mad Max adlı aksiyon filmiyle giriş yaptı.

İskoçya’nın İngiltere’ye karşı verdiği mücadeleyi konu alan görkemli Braveheart’ın hem yönetmeni hem başrol oyuncusu olan aktör, En İyi Film ve En İyi Yönetmen olmak üzere iki Oscar ödülünün sahibi oldu.
